The Week Ahead… March 5-11, 2018

By Debra Lytle - Friday, March 2nd, 2018

Monday, March 5

  • Parent-Tot Class, 9:00 – 11:00am
Open to the public, this FREE weekly class for children up to 24-months in age and their parent(s) is a great way to meet other parents, exchange experiences, and provide an opportunity for the children to play together and engage in age-appropriate activities. We also read a book from PJ Library twice a month. Facilitated by Amanda Stark, various experts from different fields of child development and child-care will visit occasionally to share their expertise and provide opportunities for discussions. Feel free to bring your friends; it’s open to everyone! (PLEASE NOTE: We have a mandatory vaccination policy.) For more information, contact Lynne Falkow-Strauss.

  • Open Mah Jongg Play, 10:00am-12:00pm
All levels welcome. Men are welcome, too. Come join the fun! For more information, contact Evelyn.

  • Women's Study Group, 12:00pm
Rabbi Robert Eisen leads these monthly group sessions using The Five Books of Miriam: A Woman’s Commentary on the Torah as the core for discussion. Topics can be interesting, insightful & inspiring. No charge to attend. Bring your own dairy lunch; beverages & dessert provided.

  • B'nai Mitzvah Class, 4:00pm

Tuesday, March 6

  • Religious School, 4:00pm

  • Hebrew H.S., 5:00pm

  • Junior USY, 6:00pm. For Jewish children grades 7 & 8.

  • Talmud on Tuesday, 6:00pm
The Talmud is an extensive compilation of teachings and opinions of thousands of rabbis over the centuries, covering matters of Jewish law, ethics, philosophy, history, customs, and more. For over a year, our “Talmud on Tuesday” group has been learning Tractate Megillah from the Babylonina Talmud. On Tuesday, Feb. 20 we concluded our study of the tractate. And, so, as per our tradition, as soon as one thing is concluded, we begin something new: we begin again. Join us tonight as we begin our study of Tractate Shabbat. The only pre-requisite is a desire to learn! Learn about the law and lore in the Talmud with Rabbi Robert Eisen as we dig deep into living Judaism. Open to all. No charge to attend.

Wednesday, March 7

  • “Gentle Chair Yoga” – Wednesdays, 9:30–10:30am
Focus is on increased balance, strength and flexibility in a supportive group setting. Meditation and deep relaxation at end of each class leaves participants with positive healing energy and uplifted spirits. Dress comfortably. Members of Women’s League: $6 per class; non-members $8 per class. For more information, contact Evelyn.

  • Weekday Torah Study Group, 11:00am
Informal and lively study discussion led by Rabbi Robert Eisen. (Occasionally lay-led.) Open to all. No charge to attend.

Friday, March 9

  • "Shabbat Under the Stars," 5:45pm on the Rabbi Arthur Oleisky Courtyard
The opportunity to worship outside enables us to better encounter nature, and to remind ourselves that any space can become sacred through the manner in which we use it. Come and help us expand our “worship zone” as we welcome Shabbat.

Saturday, March 10

  • Shabbat’s Cool, 9:00am
All families are invited to join us for this child-friendly Shabbat program, including a parallel session for parents 9:30-10:15am. Youth will learn the Torah service, play outside & enjoy Shabbat lunch. For more information, contact Rabbi Barkan.
