Friendly reminders:

Let’s get creative and be colorful! All students and their families are invited to participate in FREE art projects on Sunday, Feb. 16 as part of the “Festival of Israeli Art Show & Sale.” Local artist Julie Stein will guide everyone through three stations: Making a small clay pot, painting on canvas using acrylic paints, and decorating a picture frame. Join us at 9:30am and/or 12:30pm. All ages welcome and it’s all free. Parents: Come see the Art Show! Over 1500 works of art by more than 100 known and upcoming Israeli artists will be on display by Safrai Gallery of Israel. Show proceeds will benefit CAI’s youth and education programs!

Join us on Friday, Feb. 28 at 5:45pm for an energetic service led by our 3rd-5th Graders in the Religious School and at THA. After the service, we’ll have a delicious Shabbat dinner at 7:00pm. A letter went home to all 3rd-5th Grade students inviting them to sign up for parts in the service. Please send the form at the bottom of the letter back to Rabbi Herman indicating the part that you want. A flyer for the dinner also went out in that mailing. Please RSVP for the dinner by Feb. 24 to Kim.

TEACHERS' CLASSROOM RECAPS:
Kindergarten & 1st Grade – Renee Hulsey

This week the Kindergartners learned the letter “samech.” The 1st Graders learned “koof” and “tzadee.” We had a lot of fun singing with Morah Nichole. We especially like the song about popsicles, “artitk,” and the new song, “Lo yisa goy.” We would love to see everyone at shul on Shabbat! We would especially love to see everyone on Saturday, March 1, as Mallory celebrates becoming a Bat Mitzvah. Please join us!

2nd Grade – Bryan Gordon
Our 2nd Graders are using more and more questions, answers and commands in Hebrew, and we are continuing to learn the Purim story using a Hebrew text. Those who were in class on Tuesday brought home a worksheet to complete. We also got to collaborate with Morah Nichole in learning about our different Sephardic and Ashkenazi heritages, which are helping us understand why some people say Hebrew words differently from others.

3rd Grade – Laura Olesen
The 3rd Graders are doing a terrific job in preparing for their consecration. They so enjoyed our re-enactment of Joshua and Jericho chapter that they wanted to do it all again! In Hebrew, we worked on Brachot and Birkat HaMazon. Looking forward to our photo session soon and services on the 28th.

4th Grade – Elana Israel
This week in Hebrew, we worked with letters Samekh and Sin, and played lots of great reading games. Everyone is doing so well with their reading! In Judaics, we began talking about the Talmud, and learned the song "L'Chah Dodi," which is sung to welcome Shabbat. All of the students are doing amazing and creative work!

5th Grade – Courtney DeYoung & Sarah Artzi
The 5th Graders are concluding their unit on death. We will next discuss conversion and will bring in CAI’s Basic Judaism Class teacher, Mrs. Phyllis Broad.

6th Grade – MeMe Aguila
The 6th Graders discussed American Jews’ responses to the killing of European Jews during the Holocaust. We are also beginning our presentations on famous Jewish figures. On Sunday, the students will be presenting on Jeff Katzenberg, Stan Lee and Ruth Handler.

7th – 8th Grade – Sivan Shahmoon
Erika did a wonderful presentation on “The Butterfly Project” during class. We are gearing up for leading the Holocaust Memorial Service in April.
