Religious School Bulletin Jan. 17, 2014

Religious School Parent Bulletin January 17, 2014

Your children will be bringing home Hebrew reading sheets. Please work on these sheets with them for 10-15 minutes a night in order to reinforce the Hebrew that they are learning in class. It will make a big difference in their progress!

There will be no bulletin next week. We wish everyone a restful Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend.

TEACHERS' CLASSROOM RECAPS:
Kindergarten and 1st Grade – Renee Hulsey
This past Sunday, the students joined the rest of our Anshei Israel family to celebrate Tu B'Shevat. We enjoyed a short seder led by Rabbi Eisen, had fun Israeli dancing with HaMorah Liora, planted parsley with Linda Roy and went on a short nature hike. Then we enjoyed snacks and some of us played on the playground at the park. It was a wonderful time! I look forward to seeing all of my students on Sunday, January 26. We will not have class on Jan. 19 as we will be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.

2nd Grade – Bryan Gordon
On Sunday, we participated in a lively Tu B’shevat celebration at McDonald Park. The students dove right in to an exciting new semester this week. We are reviewing where we left off in the textbook and getting ready to launch into more reading and writing exercises. We are also learning about Moses.

3rd Grade – Laura Olesen
We had a wonderful week including celebrating Tu B'Shevat at the park. It was a great time! We planted, danced, ate, and enjoyed the beautiful outdoor weather with everyone. On Tuesday, our Hebrew students worked on their matching computer programs that they learned from the week before. Also, we thrilled to have our new students Isaac and Joshua!

4th Grade – Elana Israel
This week, the students experienced Tu B'Shevat! In Hebrew, we learned new letters Tet and Tav while enjoying the outdoors. In Judaics, we discussed the importance of this holiday, while learning how to sprout tomato and basil seeds. Everyone is doing great work and it’s wonderful to have everyone back from winter break.

5th Grade – Courtney DeYoung & Sarah Artzi
In Judaics, we discussed divorce in class, and everyone kept in mind the sensitive aspect of the topic. We talked about the Jewish aspect behind divorce. Each student handled the conversation in such a mature manner! In Hebrew, we continue in our workbook, learning to read the prayers as opposed to memorizing them allows us to focus on the meaning of the prayer as well. All the students have been doing well; we hope they continue to improve as we start our second semester!

6th Grade – MeMe Aguila
Sixth grade continued its study of the prophets.

7th – 8th Grade – Sivan Shahmoon
This week students will begin discussing the Holocaust in preparation for the memorial service.
