Monday, December 11

  • Parent-Tot Class, continuing Mondays, 9:00 – 11:00am
    Open to the public, this FREE weekly class for children up to 24-months in age and their parent(s) is a great way to meet other parents, exchange experiences, and provide an opportunity for the children to play together and engage in age-appropriate activities. We also read a book from PJ Library twice a month. Facilitated by Amanda Stark, various experts from different fields of child development and child-care will visit occasionally to share their expertise and provide opportunities for discussions.   • Talmud on Tuesday, 6:00pm
    The Talmud is an extensive compilation of teachings and opinions of thousands of rabbis over the centuries, covering matters of Jewish law, ethics, philosophy, history, customs, and more. We are currently studying Tractate Megillah. Learn about the law and lore in the Talmud with Rabbi Robert Eisen as we dig deep into living Judaism. Open to all. No charge to attend.

Wednesday, December 13

  • “Gentle Chair Yoga” – Wednesdays, 9:30–10:30am
    Focus is on increased balance, strength and flexibility in a supportive group setting. Meditation and deep relaxation at end of each class leaves participants with positive healing energy and uplifted spirits. Dress comfortably.   • Targum Shlishi, approx. 12pm following Kiddush
    We are taught to read the Torah Portion of the week, each week, twice: In/From the Torah text (Shnayim Mikra), and again in translation (Targum Shlishi) to ensure that we understand both the form and the function of Torah – what it teaches, and how it can be applied. Our guest Tamir Shecory, one of our Shinshinim (young Israelis doing a year of service here in Tucson on behalf of Israel through the Jewish Federation) will speak about life as an Israeli. No charge to attend.

  • Shabbat Afternoon Torah Study, 3:30pm
    Open to all, this is an opportunity to become more involved in “living Judaism.” Lay-led. No charge to attend. Torah portion: Mikkets

Sunday, December 17

  • Religious School Hanukkah Workshop & Maccabiah, 9:00am
    Everyone is welcome! Join us at 9:00am for Minyan; at 9:30am we’ll have learning activities for youth about all the symbolism of Hanukkah, as well as a parallel Adult Education Kollel with Rabbi Robert Eisen in the Library (see below). At 10:30am, we’ll join together to participate in a Maccabiah Competition will some serious silliness; followed at 11:30am by Hanukkah food & music. It’s all free, but please RSVP by Dec. 13 to Kim.

  • Adult Education Kollel, 9:30am
    Rabbi Robert Eisen will present “Customary Hanukkah Customs” Why do we celebrate this holiday as we do? Together, we’ll explore some of the more popular/public and esoteric ways in and through which we observe this holiday. There being more than meets the eye, we will take this opportunity to see, as a byproduct of our study, how this holiday became so much more than it may have been originally intended. Following the kollel, attendees are invited to stay and participate in our Religious School Hanukkah Workshop (see above). No charge to attend, but a contribution (non-perishable food item or monetary donation) to the Community Food Bank is appreciated. Please RSVP to Tamara.
