Religious School Parent Bulletin March 28, 2014

Friendly reminders:
The entire family is encouraged to attend our Passover Family Workshop on Sunday, April 6, 9:00am to 12:00pm. Join us to create a paper Seder plate and hear a Passover story (Grades K-2); make matzah and participate in a Readers’ Theatre (Grades 3-6); and attend a Model Seder (all grades). Then we’ll have some Passover goodies. This is a mandatory day of religious school and we strongly encourage parents to attend with their children … it will be fun for all!

TEACHERS' CLASSROOM RECAPS:
Kindergarten and 1st Grade – Renee Hulsey
We finished learning about the story of Purim this past Sunday, then we sang some Pesach songs with HaMorah Nichole and started learning the Four Questions. We were busy! Hope to see you next Sunday for more Pesach fun.

2nd Grade – Bryan Gordon
This week the students have the spirit of being in between Purim and Pesach. In honor of the reversals and fun of Purim, and the kid-led activities of Pesach, our class activities are "kids' choice" for the time being, while we learn the Four Questions and tricky things like how to say "have" in Hebrew which has no word for "have"!

3rd Grade – Laura Olesen
We had a very busy week in class this week. The 3rd graders are rehearsing for their Siddur Dedication and doing a great job. Also, my Hebrew class had fun on computers working on Hebrew and they are doing very well translating Hebrew vocabulary! We are also preparing for our upcoming Seder.

4th Grade – Elana Israel
This week, we learned about the history, traditions, and sounds of Passover. We also began learning several of the prayers recited during the Seder. In Hebrew, we learned new letters: nun and final nun. We're excited to be almost done with our book. Everyone is doing great!

5th Grade – Courtney DeYoung & Sarah Artzi
This week we continued our unit on Israel by studying different maps to get a sense of Israel's geography and its overall location in the Middle East. We learned (memorized!) Israel's bordering counties, discussed its population, the Law of Return, and what it means to "make Aliya." Next week we will look at the three major religions of Israel and start to explore its people and major cities. Our Hebrew class seemed to truly enjoy our sight-reading activity! We look forward to adding new words and connections this week.

6th Grade – MeMe Aguila
The 6th Grade continued its study of American Jewish History. My Hebrew class is getting ready for its field trip to 5th Street Deli on Tuesday, April 8, where they will order in Hebrew.

7th – 8th Grade – Sivan Shahmoon
In class we shared our Holocaust poems and short stories and came up with an order to present during the Yom HaShoah service.
