Have you registered your child for religious school?  The early bird deadline is almost here (May 15th).  Please access the registration materials below and then mail (attn: Kim Miller), scan and e-mail, or personally bring them in to the synagogue office.

Please join us for the 7th/8th Grade Siyum this Saturday at 6:00 pm. in the Epstein Chapel.

This coming Tuesday, May 8, we have a special school-wide program connected to the Jewish holiday of Lag B'Omer. This is traditionally a joyous holiday, marking the end of a plague and the passing of a great rabbinic sage.  Some communities have the tradition of lighting bonfires on Lag B'Omer, but we will do something more low-key (although equally fun).

End of the Year Report Cards will be going out in mid-May.  Please check the mail for them.  We always welcome input and feedback from parents.

On Sunday, May 20, we have a special Teacher Appreciation Program at the end of religious school, where in addition to recognizing our teachers we will have the raffle for the IPod for the Shabbat Incentive Program and announce the names of those who have attended services and given me their card 10 or more times this year.  The latter are invited to a Bowling and Pizza Party at the end of May.  Hope to see you at this special program.

Teachers' Classroom Recaps:

Kindergarten – Elana Weiner

This week we learned the letter Koof. We learned the word Keshet (rainbow) and talked about the story of Noah's Ark, when God promised to never again destroy the world and shows God's renewed promise through a rainbow.

1st Grade – Renee Hulsey

This week the first graders learned the Hebrew letters sin and gimmel. They recognized that the sin looks very similar to a shin, and that the gimmel is similar to the nun. The students are doing a great job in remembering the names and sounds of all of the letters.  We have just one letter and two vowels left to learn!  We also discussed that synagogues are not only places to pray and learn, but also to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

2nd Grade – Emily Riley-Saxton

This week in religious school we continued our study of Israel and its people.  We are also reviewing all our vocabulary from the year.  In the next few weeks we will continue our Israel unit and wrap up the aleph-bet.
3rd Grade – Laura Olesen
The third graders are doing a great job continuing with their Hebrew and practicing with Final "Chaf".  I.  Those who studied their "Checkpoint" page did an awesome job with around the world-with Hebrew!  In Judaics, the students are learning and discussing Lag B'Omer. They are also learning to locate in Israel, Mount Meron and Tzfat.  They will be bringing a small booklet home about Lag B'Omer to help them review and prepare for our "Jewpardy" game.
4th Grade – Rebecca Grossberg
The 4th graders learned about the holiday of Lag B'Omer.
5th Grade – Jesse Muller
The 5th graders did a mock wedding to learn about the rituals associated with a Jewish wedding.
6th Grade – Layni Direnfeld
This week in the sixth grade we did presentations on our assigned prophets.  Students connected each prophet to themselves and telling the class what qualities they could take away from each and integrate into their own lives.
7th – 8th Grade – Joel Kanter & Jessica Cooper
The 7th and 8th grade classes learned about the Jewish holidays between Passover and Shavuot, focusing on the upcoming holidays Lag B'Omer and Yom Yerushalayim.
