Teachers' Classroom Recaps:

Kindergarten – Elana Weiner

We learned the letter Nun this week! We learned what a Ner Tamid, and eternal light, and how there is one in every synagogue to symbolize that G-d is always there. We also started learning about the holiday of Purim! We read two Purim stories and with the first grade put on our own Purim play! The kids had lots of fun pretending to be Queen Ester, Mordechai, and even the evil Haman.

1st Grade – Renee Hulsey

This week the first graders learned another vowel, the holam (oh), and the letter tet.  I am really impressed with how well they are remembering the letters and the sounds.  They are working very hard!  We also learned about the holiday of Purim.  They know about King Ahasuerus and Queen Esther, and Mordecai and Haman.  We got together with the kindergarten class and acted out the story of Purim.  Based on the laughter, the kids all had a lot of fun doing that!  I look forward to seeing everyone on March 4!

2nd Grade – Emily Riley-Saxton

This week we worked on Friday night prayers for our March 23 Shabbat dinner.  We also created more flash cards and worked on our cursive letters.  Please let me know if you will not be in class on February 28. We will be performing our play of "Joseph and That Darn Coat." Have a wonderful Rodeo Break.

3rd Grade – Laura Olesen

This week the 3rd graders continued learning about Elijah on Mt. Carmel and surrounding area. Their "Elijah on Mt. Carmel booklets" turned out very nice. They also are working on their lunar calendars and discussed the upcoming month of Adar and Rosh Chodesh. In Hebrew we worked on vocabulary skills, and many students were able to "crack the code" during our 4 corners rotation time. It really nice to see those who came to our Kabbalat Shabbat service and dinner!

4th Grade – Rebecca Grossberg

The fourth grade continued its study of Jewish History.

5th Grade – Jesse Muller

The fifth graders discussed the life cycle ritual of circumcision as well as the "Simhat Bat"-the naming ceremony for a girl.

6th Grade – Layni Direnfeld

This week in the 6th grade we explored American Jewish involvement with Israel, including why the relationship between our two countries is important to us as both Jews and Americans.  We also discussed why the American Jewish population was a heavy supporter of the civil rights movements.  To do this we compared pictures of the segregated south to pictures seen in the years leading up to the Holocaust in Nazi Germany.  During Tefilah we have been working on the full birkat hamazon.  Have a great Rodeo break!

7th – 8th Grade – Joel Kanter & Jessica Cooper

This week in the 7th & 8th grade class we will be continuing to discuss to Holocaust and are taking a close look at the hero Oskar Schindler. The students will be discussing what it is to be a Jewish hero and will be learning of all the great lengths Oskar Schindler went through to save the lives of many Polish Jews.
